Geological storage of CO2
!! Important. This page is a preliminary version, we invite you to send us comments and suggestions to improve our services.
The Dutch government wishes to make the Netherlands one of the cleanest and energy efficient countries of Europe. In the work programme ‘Clean and efficient: new energy for the climate’ ('Schoon en Zuinig: Nieuwe energie voor het klimaat') the government describes amongst others the ambitions for energy savings, sustainable energy and underground storage of CO2. Minister Cramer (VROM, Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment) coordinates the project 'Schoon en Zuinig' which will be executed by seven ministries.
CO2 sequestration (CCS), Dossier Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment
The Governement of the Netherlands has decided that, next to substantial energy saving programs and development of sustainable energy, CCS will be deployed to decrease the exhaust of CO2. The Ministry publishes a dossier on CCS on its website.
Web site CO2-Capture and Sequestration (CCS)
The CCS web site contains information for the public on capture and sequestration of CO2. This information is to enable everybody to form an opinion on CCS. The information concerns the necessity of sequestration, how it works and its safety. The web site has been developed on request of the Netherlands Government to enhance the general knowledge on CCS.
Legislation and necessary licences according to the Mining Act
To store CO2 in the subsurface of the Netherlands one must obtain a Storage Licence. Depending on the situation a preceding Exploration Licence may be required. Storage must be executed according to a Storage Plan approved by the Minister of Economic Affairs.
Currently national and international (EU) legislation (EU, OSPAR (see also Wikipedia) and London Convention) is being harmonised. See also references below.

CO2 Capture and Storage risk Scenarios
This section looks at the risk scenarios of the geological storage of CO2. The generic database available via this website is a tool for auditing risk scenarios for CO2 storage projects identifying any feature, event or process which directly or indirectly may affect the (long-term) security of storage.
CO2GeoNet (EU)
A network of public scientific institutes through Europe promoting integration to form a unique European Research Laboratory on CO2 Storage durably engaged to mitigate climate change and ocean acidification.
CO2Net
CO2NET is a Carbon Dioxide Knowledge Transfer Network, which was initially set up under the European Commission's FP5 Programme. The Network comprises in excess of 54 companies or organisations, covering 18 countries. Our participants are amongst the worlds most knowledgeable in the field of Carbon Capture and Storage.
FENCO-ERA - the Fossil Energy Coalition
In accordance with research and industry targets FENCO-ERA will help meet future energy demands and environment targets whilst maintaining security of supply. Europe will thus be able to effectively compete in markets worldwide in the field of clean fossil fuels.

Questions, Wishes and Complaints. What happens to them?
NLOG enables you to express your questions, wishes and complaints via
nlog-portal@tno.nl.
Whether this concerns the response times, the information, the data or the service level, NLOG is keen to take your comment on board and deal with it according to a set procedure. This means that you will receive an email from us within two days.
NLOG tries to settle complaints within four weeks. Wishes (for new functionalities) will be judged on importance and do-ability (based on scope and public tasks of NLOG and TNO-DINO as database manager). The period of time needed to realize the new functionality will be estimated on a one by one basis. You will be informed on this. In case a new functionality will imply a serious amount of work, then the User council will have to prioritize the work. This may imply extra time because the User council meets on a bi-annual basis.
