New data: Biostratigraphic data

A new dataset can be found on NLOG.nl: Biostratigraphic data from NAM. This data was collected from 162 wells in the Dutch part of the continental shelf between 1961 and 2021. It should be noted, however, that this is very specific ‘raw’ data that cannot be used without palynological knowledge.

The data contains counts of mainly microfossils (pollen, spores, foraminifers, dinoflagellates, algae, ostracods and more) and a small amount of macrofossils such as ammonites and bivalves. Such fossils are used to make (relative) age determinations and enable correlations between wells. Interpretations regarding the depositional environment are also possible. The image below shows an example of this data.

The data can be downloaded from on this page. Two files are available for downloading: a file with the data itself in SBG format, to be opened with StrataBugs, and an Excel file with metadata. This includes well names, coordinates and sampling depths per well.

If you do not have access to StrataBugs but are interested in the raw data of a number of wells, please contact us. You will then receive a selection of the data via our Service Desk.
