64,287 borehole sample images digitally accessible via NLOG

Commissioned by the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth (KGG), TNO Geological Survey of the Netherlands (TNO-GDN) has started a multi-year project to make additional subsurface data from the oil and gas industry digitally accessible via NLOG. The first tangible result has been visible since May: no fewer than 64,287 borehole sample images can now be viewed online via NLOG.

These photos come from 751 boreholes and 156 sidetracks and were previously only available to view during a physical visit to the TNO-GDN core store. The collection includes boreholes on both land and at sea. The majority of the photos have been made available by the NAM.

New functionality

A new tab has been added to NLOG for each borehole: ‘Borehole sample images’. Here you can view a preview of the photo by moving your cursor over the file link. The images are linked to depth and stratigraphic information, which facilitates interpretation.

The collection

An overview of the drillings with drill sample photos can be found here: link. This overview is periodically updated on the core store page.
