The year 2025 marks a special milestone with the 50th edition of the annual report "Mineral Resources and Geothermal Energy in the Netherlands. The first annual report was published in 1976, and an annual report has been issued every year since. In the early years, the focus was mainly on hydrocarbon exploration and extraction. Over the years, the annual report has evolved and now covers all mining activities, including the extraction of rock salt, geothermal heat and the storage of substances in the Dutch subsurface.
As in previous years, the Annual Report on Mineral Resources and Geothermal Energy in the Netherlands provides an overview of all exploration, extraction and storage activities in the Netherlands (both onshore and offshore) under the Mining Act. Want to know more about the stock and production of natural gas and oil, the extraction of rock salt and geothermal heat, or the status of underground temporary storage (natural gas, oil and nitrogen) and permanent storage (water and CO2)? Then view the annual report here: Annual Report 2024 - Mineral and geothermal resources in the Netherlands
Currently, the report is only available in Dutch. The English version will be published shortly.
Based on the data we receive from licensees under the Mining Act, the TNO Advisory Group on Economic Affairs (TNO-AGE) compiles the annual report. This is done on behalf of and for the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth.
